Activating your Scrapbook,Uploading & Making a Webpage
LESSON #1
How to activate your Scrapbook
In order to have "Scrapbook" in your email index you need to activate your scrapbook, you do this by making a trial webpage that you can later use to put your graphics or pictures into.
Here are the 8 steps that you will go through as you make your webpage--
#1-Go to your home page
Click onto Page Builder
#2-You will see an introductory message,
Click onto "Continue"
#3-You will see the license agreement,
Click onto "I accept" (at bottom)
#4-You`ll now find yourself on a page style page where you can pick a page color, you do that by clicking onto the color you want. "Blue Sands" and "Grey" are both easy ones to see your graphics and pictures on.I use Grey for email sigs graphics because nobody is going to view the page and it`s easy to see your graphics on.I use Blue Sands for pictures because it centers your pictures but the choice is yours. After clicking onto the page color you`ll be taken to a new page and on that page......
#5-Click on Publish (in the left sidebar)
#6-On this next page you`ll be given a chance to give your page a title or you can leave it blank and MSNTV will give your page a title. If you choose to leave it blank then Click onto the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page.If you choose to add a title then use a short easy one to remember because it becomes a part of your page`s url.I normally use only lower casing names because it`s easier to remember. There`s also a box on this page where you can add a webpage discription but I always leave that blank. After making a page title then Click "Continue".
#7-Click onto "Publish" on next page.
#8-On this page you`ll see your page url towards the top of the page, write it down because this will be the first 3 parts of your future graphic/pictures url. Click on "Done" You now have a webapage and you have activated your scrapbook.
Now that you`ve activated your scrapbook by making a webpage you`ll see "Scrapbook" in your email index when ever you get an email with an attachment in it.
LESSON #2
How to Upload to your Scrapbook
Now that you have activated your scrapbook it`s time to put something in it.
Let`s start with finding a graphic at a graphic website.
#1-Click onto the graphic that you want to put into your scrapbook.
Then Click your "Option" key,
Click your "Go To" button
and then Click your "Show Current" button.
That will put the url of the graphic into your http:// window.
Now you need to copy that url.
To do that hold down your "Cmd" key and click your "A" key to highlight the url.
Next hold down your "Cmd" key and Click your "C" key,
the url has now been copied into your buffer.
There are easier ways of getting your graphics url to the uploader in the next step but I`m explaining this way because later if you want to put music in your sig you must learn how to use the "Go To" method to get an url.
#2- You now need to take that url to an transloader,I use http://www.webscissors.com because it always works for me and there are other options at this transloader that I like.
#3-Delete the http:// in the webscissors uploader window and hold down your "Cmd" key and lightly Click your "V" key, that will paste your graphics url into the window.
#4-Click onto "Show Images"
#5-On this page you`ll see your graphic and next to it you`ll see-
Import
Details
Edit
Transload
I suggest you first Click onto "Details" before uploading your image, the reason for this is because on the next page webscissors will tell you the width, height, byte size and the image type (jpg or gif). You`ll need this info if you plan on putting the graphic into a sig.I have a small notebook that I write all this info down in,it makes it easier later on to remember which images you have in your scrapbook and the height and width is needed for your sig code and it helps to know if the image is a large byte size because the larger the byte size the slower it will be for loading.
#6-Next click your "Back" key and then click onto "Import".
When you click onto "Import" you`ll get a pop up that states-
"You are about to add an image to your scrapbook.Do you wish to continue"
Click the continue button.
After clicking the continue button you`ll find yourself transported to your scrapbook.
#7-This next step isn`t necessary to do now but it makes it easier for when you make a webpage with this graphic in it.Click onto the graphic you just uploaded into your scrapbook and you`ll notice down in your status bar the name of your graphic. It will look something like this-
importD0_jpg or
importD0_gif
Write that down in your notebook but change the _ to a period so it now looks like this-
importD0.jpg or
importD0.gif
A couple notes about your graphics name-
#1-that is a zero after the importD,
your graphic always ends in a number not a letter.
#2-pay attention to whether any part of the name is in upper casings and make sure you write it down as an upper casing. The "D" in importD is always an upper casing.Your graphics name is case sensitive and it will only work in a webpage or your sig box with the correct casings.
LESSON #3
How to upload an email attachment to your scrapbook.
#1-When reading an email with an attachment in it you`ll see "Scrapbook" in your email index.
Click onto that and you`ll get a popup that states "You are about to add an image to your scrapbook.Do you wish to continue" Click onto "Continue".
You also get a 2nd popup asking whether you would like to view your scrapbook or continue with reading your email.
#2-If you click onto view your graphic in your scrapbook in the above pop up then follow step #7 to get your graphics name.Because this graphic came from your email the name of your attachment graphic will be something like this-
mailedD0_jpg or
mailedD0_gif
and you would again take the _ out and replace with a period so it looks like this-
mailedD0.jpg or
mailedD0.gif
LESSON #4
How to make a Webpage
Now that you`ve made a webpage in Lesson #1---yes a page with a background color and an url does count as a webpage and in Lesson #2 you learnt how to upload graphics into your scrapbook, now it`s time to take that next step and publish those graphics onto a webpage.
Before I explain how to publish those graphics,I thought I`ld give you a few tips on how to set up your webpages.I found it easiest to separate my graphics into different categories such as Backgrounds,Name tag graphics,Holiday graphics and graphics of the same nature (roses, teddybears, cats, dogs or whatever) and put each of these categories on separate webpages. If you separate your graphics this way then when ever you decide to change the graphics in your sig all you need to do is change the last part of the graphic url to the name of the new graphic you`ld like to use.I`ll explain what part of the url you need to change later in the next lesson, the point is that if you separate graphics by categories it makes it very simple to change whats in your sig.
#1-Go to your Home page and click onto Pagebuilder.
#2-You`re now in your Pagebuilder Index page where you can either make a new webpage by clicking Create and following step #4 in Lesson #1,where you pick a webpage style or you can add to the existing webpage that you made in Lesson #1.
To add to your existing webpage you`ll see in the center of this page "choose document to change" and below that you`ll see a blue rectangle with a mini version of the page you created in Lesson #1,Click onto that blue rectangle.
#3-On this page Click onto "Change page" which is directly below your mini webpage.
#4-At the Top and Bottom of this page you`ll see "Add an item",Click onto either one of those.
#5-On this page you`ll see "Choose the type of item to add". Below that you`ll see 6 squares, one for-
Pictures
Text
Links
Lists
Page Break
Heading
Click onto the "Picture" square.
#6-On this page you`ll see "Add a picture to this document" and below that you`ll see-
Video Capture
Your Scrapbook
Art Gallery
Click onto "Your Scrapbook".
#7-You`re now inside your scrapbook and you can choose whichever graphic you want to add to your webpage by Clicking onto it.
#8-On this page you`ll see a mini version of your graphic and to the right of it you`ll see
"Replace this picture" and
"View this picture"
If you didn`t write down your graphics name in Lesson #2 then you can click onto "View this picture" and look down in your status bar for it`s name.Write down it`s name which will look something like this-
importD0_jpg
importD0_gif
mailedD0_jpg
mailedD0_gif
After writing down it`s name Click the "Back" key.
#9-Below your mini graphic you`ll see a
"Type a title" box and
"Type a caption" box.
I found it beneficial to type the name of your graphic in the title box so if you later loose the paper with it`s name on it or if you`re viewing your webpage you`ll have the name right there.Remember from Lesson #2,change the _ to a period in the name so it looks something like this-
importD0.jpg
importD0.gif
mailedD0.jpg
mailedD0.gif
and don`t forget to use upper casing letters if the name has them (the "D" is always upper casing)
#10-After typing in your graphics name Click "Done" at the bottom of that page.
Now if you want to continue adding graphics to your webpage at this time, then repeat steps #4-#9 in this lesson.
#11-When you finish adding your graphics or editing your page you need to Click "Publish" in the left index and Click "Done" on the next page.If in step #2 of this lesson you created a new page instead of adding to your existing page then you need to follow steps
#6-#8 from Lesson #1 for publishing your page.
LESSON #5
The parts of your graphic or background url
Your graphic`s/background`s url is made up of 5 parts. When you first published your webpage you were given the first 3 parts of your graphic`s/background`s url, those parts are your webpage`s address.
Part #1 is-
http://community.webtv.net/
Part #2 is-
your username,mine is nquale
Part #3 is-
your webpages title,if you didn`t give your page a title then MSNTV assigned one.The MSNTV assigned titles will be "doc" with a number after it.
Part #4 is-
scrapbookFiles
this part always stays the same
You`ll notice that the F in Files is an upper casing,it must remain an upper casing in order for it to work in your sig coding.
Part #5 is-
your graphic`s/background`s name.
With all 5 parts of your graphics url put together it should look something like this-
http://community.webtv.net/nquale/graphics/scrapbookFiles/importD0.jpg
In the above address
Part #1 is http://community.webtv.net/
Part #2 is nquale/
Part #3 is graphics/
Part #4 is scrapbookFiles/
Part #5 is importD0.jpg
Now back to what I mentioned in the beginning of lesson #4,if you put all of your backgrounds on one webpage all you need to do to change the background of an existing sig is change Part #5 of your background`s url to the new backgrounds name. This also applies to graphics, name tags, bars and whatever else you have in your sig.
So as you can see by categorizing your webpages and putting more then 1 graphic on each webpage you are making it easier for yourself when it comes to changing your sigs.
